01 — Understand
Sylfen technology, in three points
Sylfen develops the Smart Energy Hub, a system for local energy production and storage. Based on more than twelve years of CEA research and protected by nine patents, it uses a reversible high-temperature electrolyser.
01 The solution
A reversible energy hub producing and storing hydrogen, electricity and heat.
02 Technology principle
A reversible high-temperature electrolyser converts electricity into hydrogen and can operate as a fuel cell to generate electricity again.
03 Applications
- Public buildings
- Industrial sites
- Logistics
- Social housing
Sylfen develops the Smart Energy Hub, a technology for local energy storage and production. Based on more than twelve years of CEA research and protected by nine patents, the system is a reversible high-temperature electrolyser that can also operate as a fuel cell. It produces hydrogen and electricity while recovering heat, offering greater flexibility and efficiency than separate conventional equipment. Applications include public and industrial buildings, logistics facilities and social housing.
Smart Energy Hub operating modes
- In electrolyser mode, the hub converts electricity into hydrogen.
- In fuel-cell mode, it generates electricity from stored hydrogen.
- Heat produced by both processes is recovered, increasing overall system efficiency.
The Smart Energy Hub also integrates batteries for short-term electricity storage. It can store renewable energy, supply hydrogen vehicles, charge batteries and heat buildings.
Sylfen was selected as one of the twenty French Tech Green20 start-ups in 2022. Its main target markets are public and industrial buildings, logistics facilities and social housing.
