The SARUS expander converts gas pressure energy into useful work.

SARUS is a deeptech start-up supporting the energy transition through applications for compressed and liquefied natural gas. Its innovation consists of affordable, robust energy-recovery equipment for small-scale installations. A maintenance-free high-pressure expander helps industrial users integrate lower-carbon energy.

The technology recovers pressure energy from natural-gas networks to perform useful work and reduce energy costs. SARUS also develops linear generators that turn expander motion into electricity and thermodynamic systems that liquefy gases for low-temperature industrial applications.

The company aims to deploy millions of efficient small-scale systems for energy recovery and green-energy integration. Its work could significantly affect gas networks and distributed production of industrial gases. SARUS has received funding and support from organisations including Bpifrance and Climate-KIC and has won several accelerator and innovation programmes.
