Fenix Energy technology, in three points

Fenix Energy decarbonises high-temperature industrial heat above 300°C with a 200 kW to 6 MW low-carbon boiler fuelled primarily by recycled iron powder. It provides manufacturers with a turnkey service covering both equipment and the supply of certified green iron fuel.

Founded in Lyon in 2023, Fenix Energy is a French deeptech company transforming the decarbonisation of high-temperature industrial heat above 300°C. Its 200 kW to 6 MW low-carbon boiler uses recycled iron powder as its only fuel and emits no CO₂ during combustion.

The recycled iron-powder boiler

Fenix Energy’s core product is a modular 200 kW to 6 MW boiler that burns recycled iron powder. Unlike conventional fuels, green iron produces no CO₂, carbon monoxide or particulates. The metal is oxidised to generate high-temperature heat, then the resulting iron oxide is reduced with green hydrogen to regenerate the fuel for repeated use.

The turnkey service covers feasibility studies, equipment supply and installation, regular delivery of certified green iron, integration with the existing process and maintenance through industrial partners. Customers can deploy rapidly without investing in dedicated storage or network infrastructure.

Initial applications focus on high-temperature drying and distillation, where stable, high-quality heat is critical. Compared with natural gas or hydrogen, recycled iron offers high energy density, safe handling—it is non-toxic and has low explosion risk—and a fuel cost stated to be up to five times lower than green hydrogen purchased on the European market.

Iron is abundant, with around two billion tonnes produced worldwide each year. Its near-infinite circularity and potential for production on every continent make it a sovereign energy carrier. Fenix Energy believes this “Green Iron” cycle can accelerate the transition to carbon-neutral industry.
